We specialise in the commercialization of patented technology, including functional foods, beverages, nutritional supplements and nutraceuticals/pharmaceuticals.
The company has produced a world first – all-natural low GI sugar. Fully substitutable for white sugar and applicable to beet and cane sugars, Horizon's technology offers opportunities for manufacturers worldwide.
Horizon has also identified and holds patents for the production and use of a range of highly beneficial phytochemicals in molasses. Research has revealed that these substances are capable of positively changing body composition. When fed to animals on a high fat diet, the molasses extract has been shown to significantly reduce percentage fat and increase lean muscle mass.
Cocoa Australia is a 100% owned subsidiary of Horizon Science and promotes the growth of commercial cocoa plantations in Northern Australia. Cocoa grown in Australia not only provides an opportunity for import replacement but will also capitalise on the synergies of combining locally grown cocoa, sugar and dairy products to finally enable production of a genuine “made in Australia” chocolate.
Successful products developed and patented by Horizon Science include wine chocolate and wine drops, launched in Australia by Farm By Nature Pty Ltd and marketed under the Cocoa Farm brand. Hailed as a world first, the chocolates contain Australian wine and grape skin extract and are high in antioxidants. These chocolates have received awards at prestigious food shows around the world.
Partnering with eminent research institutions across Australia and globally, Horizon Science continues to explore the frontiers of science in search of healthier foods and food related products.
The company is financed through venture capital with the majority shareholding being Inventages and BioPacific Ventures together with a suite of private Australian investors.
